Los Angeles Rams vs Carolina Panthers Match Player Stats (Jan 10, 2026)

CHARLOTTE — Matthew Stafford dropped back with 38 seconds remaining, scanned the end zone, and fired a 19-yard touchdown strike to Colby Parkinson. The Los Angeles Rams escaped Bank of America Stadium with a 34-31 wild card victory over Carolina on Saturday night, surviving four fourth-quarter lead changes in one of the wildest playoff openers in recent memory.

The win sends the 13-5 Rams to the divisional round and ends Carolina’s season at 8-10, marking the Panthers’ first playoff appearance since 2017.

Stafford completed 24-of-42 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns, orchestrating a 71-yard drive in the final 2:38 after Carolina had taken a 31-27 lead. The 37-year-old quarterback went 6-of-7 on that final march, with the only incompletion coming on a Davante Adams drop.

“I have been in that spot a lot in my life, and I love that spot,” Stafford said. “I would rather be me having to go out there with our offense and do it than watch from the sideline.”

Quarterback Duel Ends in Stafford’s Favor

The veteran All-Pro outdueled the second-year signal-caller in a game that featured 65 combined points and 744 total yards. Bryce Young threw for 264 yards and a touchdown in his playoff debut, adding 24 rushing yards and a 16-yard touchdown scramble, but couldn’t answer Stafford’s final drive.

Stafford surpassed Kurt Warner for most postseason passing yards (2,225) and completions (171) in Rams franchise history with the performance. The touchdown to Parkinson marked his 54th career game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime.

Young’s 16-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter marked the second-longest scoring run of his career. He found Jalen Coker for a seven-yard touchdown with 2:39 left to give Carolina a 31-27 lead before Stafford answered.

Nacua, Coker Lead Receiving Corps

Puka Nacua hauled in 10 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown, adding three rushes for 14 yards and another score. The second-year receiver never doubted the outcome as the Rams trailed late.

“Never a doubt. No. 9 is with us,” Nacua said.

Coker posted career highs across the board with nine receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown. The undrafted receiver consistently beat Los Angeles defensive backs downfield, including a 52-yard grab that set up a Carolina scoring opportunity.

Parkinson’s game-winner came on a perfectly placed back-shoulder throw that he snagged in the corner of the end zone.

“You see him out there, he just has the best composure of anyone I have ever seen,” Parkinson said of Stafford. “I knew he was going to have to throw a back-shoulder ball, and that was a perfect ball. It couldn’t have been placed any better.”

Ground Game Provides Balance

Kyren Williams paced the Rams rushing attack with 13 carries for 57 yards, while Blake Corum added 11 attempts for 45 yards. Nacua’s five-yard touchdown run gave Los Angeles a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Chuba Hubbard powered Carolina’s ground game with 13 carries for 46 yards and two touchdowns. His one-yard plunge cut the Rams’ lead to 17-14 at halftime, and his second scoring run gave the Panthers a 24-20 advantage early in the fourth quarter.

Defensive Leaders and Turnovers

Both defenses struggled to generate consistent pass rush. Braden Fiske and Poona Ford combined for Los Angeles’s lone sack, while Trevis Gipson brought down Stafford once for Carolina.

Kam Curl led all tacklers with 10 stops for the Rams. Christian Rozeboom and Nick Scott each posted nine tackles to pace the Panthers defense.

The turnover battle favored Los Angeles 2-1. Cobie Durant intercepted Young in the second quarter and returned it 11 yards, setting up Nacua’s rushing touchdown. Mike Jackson picked off Stafford for Carolina but couldn’t generate a return.

Trevor Etienne fumbled for Carolina with no recovery. Troy Reeder recovered a fumble for the Rams.

Blocked Punt Shifts Momentum

Isaiah Simmons blocked an Ethan Evans punt with 3:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, giving Carolina possession at the Los Angeles 30-yard line. The special teams breakdown came after Stafford had given the Rams a 27-24 lead on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Williams.

Four plays after the blocked punt, Young connected with Coker for the seven-yard touchdown that put Carolina ahead 31-27 with 2:39 left.

The Panthers appeared poised to complete a season sweep after beating these same Rams 31-28 in Charlotte six weeks earlier. But Stafford had other plans.

Carolina’s final possession ended when Jimmy Horn Jr. dropped a fourth-down pass from Young near midfield with 27 seconds remaining, sealing the Rams’ victory.

Los Angeles controlled the clock but struggled on third down, converting just three of 13 attempts. Carolina went 5-for-12 on third down but failed on all three fourth-down attempts, including the final incompletion.

The Rams committed nine penalties for 83 yards compared to Carolina’s four penalties for 35 yards. Both teams went 4-for-4 in the red zone, though Los Angeles had five opportunities to Carolina’s four.

Looking Ahead

The Rams advance to the divisional round, where they’ll face the NFC’s top seed next weekend. Los Angeles entered the playoffs as the fifth seed after finishing 13-5 during the regular season.

“We are going to need to be able to play better if we expect to advance,” Rams coach Sean McVay said. “We had a punt blocked, didn’t score before the half when we probably should have. A lot to clean up, but found a way to win it late.”

Carolina finishes 8-10 in year two under Dave Canales, showing improvement after a 2-15 campaign the previous season. The Panthers lost four of their final five games to limp into the postseason but proved they belonged on the playoff stage.

“There is such a mix of emotions right now in the locker room,” Canales said. “From guys being proud of what we accomplished and where we got, to being sick about the opportunity that was right there in front of us.”

Stafford, a leading MVP candidate after leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns during the regular season, added another chapter to his postseason legacy. When the game was on the line at Bank of America Stadium, the veteran quarterback delivered exactly what championship teams need in January.
