Detroit Lions vs Cincinnati Bengals Match Player Stats (Oct 5, 2025)

David Montgomery came home to Cincinnati and left his mark on the scoreboard, the stat sheet, and the record books. Playing in front of more than 20 friends and family — including his sister Kiki, attending her first game since a February 2024 car crash left her paralyzed — the Lions running back scored on the ground and threw a wildcat touchdown pass, while he and Jahmyr Gibbs each found the end zone to tie an NFL record for running back duos. Detroit won 37-24 at Paycor Stadium, its fourth straight victory. Cincinnati dropped to 2-3, outscored 113-37 across three consecutive losses without Joe Burrow.

Notable Numbers

Montgomery’s wildcat TD pass came on 2nd-and-goal from the Bengals’ 3-yard line. He lined up under center in a wildcat formation and threw to tight end Brock Wright, who had a free release with Cincinnati’s defense set to stop the run. It was only the second time in Montgomery’s seven-year career he recorded both a passing and rushing touchdown in the same game.

Gibbs and Montgomery tied an NFL record. Each scoring a scrimmage touchdown in the same game for the 14th time as teammates, they matched the all-time record held by Dallas’ Emmitt Smith and Daryl Johnston — confirmed by NFL insider Adam Schefter and the Lions’ official PR account.

Chase’s first fourth-quarter touchdown registered a 12.5% completion probability, the lowest of any touchdown pass thrown in the 2025 NFL season to that point, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. He had 0.6 yards of separation from cornerback Rock Ya-Sin and was 0.2 yards from the sideline when the ball arrived.

Cincinnati went 20 consecutive possessions (excluding kneel-downs) without scoring before Chase’s 15-yard grab in the fourth quarter.

Goff’s passer rating of 153.0 came on a completion rate of 82.6% (19/23) with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He was not intercepted despite facing four sacks.

Browning’s three interceptions all came in the first three quarters, when the Bengals were being outscored 28-3. Each was caught by a different Lions defender: Alex Anzalone (14-yard return), Amik Robertson (2 yards), and Kerby Joseph (1 yard).

A Detroit safety was wiped off the scoreboard in the second quarter due to defensive holding. Derrick Barnes’ safety late in the fourth — sacking Browning in the end zone — did stand, accounting for the final two points.

Detroit outscored Cincinnati 28-3 through three quarters before the Bengals scored 21 fourth-quarter points on three touchdowns to tighten the margin.

Cincinnati had no realistic path back into the game after three quarters. The 28-3 deficit masked what the numbers confirmed: Detroit controlled possession for more than 34 minutes, threw no interceptions against a defense that had four sacks, and converted five of six red zone trips. The Bengals’ fourth-quarter rally — 21 points in 15 minutes — gave the scoreline some respectability, but it came entirely against a Lions defense that had already locked the outcome. Without Burrow, Cincinnati headed to Green Bay the following week having been outscored 113-37 over three straight losses. Detroit, at 4-1, flew to Arrowhead for a Sunday night game against Kansas City.
