Jefferson’s pick came on Miami’s second offensive play when Tagovailoa’s pass deflected off Waddle’s hands in the first quarter. St-Juste intercepted Tagovailoa on third down in the third quarter at the Miami 37, which set up Kimani Vidal’s touchdown catch four plays later. James sealed the game on Miami’s final play from scrimmage.

Los Angeles won despite converting just two of seven red zone trips — three first-half drives inside the 20 produced only field goals. Miami had the opposite problem on defense: the Chargers moved the ball consistently, just not into the end zone when it mattered. The Dolphins’ 1-5 record after this loss put them in a position from which no Miami team had recovered to reach the playoffs in the previous decade. Los Angeles moved to 4-2 and held the AFC West lead on tiebreaker after Denver won earlier the same day, avoiding what would have been a third straight loss.
